Our guest is Nachum Dershowitz, an American-born Israeli scholar and Professor Emeritus of Computer Science and AI at TAU. He is internationally renowned for foundational contributions to theoretical computer science, including the Dershowitz–Manna ordering and the recursive path ordering—both widely used to prove that computational processes eventually terminate rather than run indefinitely. His research spans a wide range of fields, including logic, artificial intelligence, natural language understanding, calendar algorithms, and the application of computational methods to medicine, archeology, and the humanities. In recent years, Dershowitz has been made major contributions to the digitization and study of Hebrew manuscripts, including the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Cairo Genizah (a vast repository of discarded medieval Hebrew texts). By applying AI-driven methods to manuscript images, his work helps decipher texts, reconstruct fragmented documents, and recover forgotten histories and cultural treasures.
